Abstract

Criminal justice can only offer very limited room for victims and offenders to reconcile but to the contrary risks to polarize positions where reconcilition might be possible. Through its face to face participatory procedures restorative justice offers much more space for finding agreement. But forgiveness can never be expected or proclaimed as an aim of any kind of more or less formalized justice.
