This thesis describes the effects of 300 kV X-rays and I MeV fission neutrons on hemopoietic stem cells and their microenvironment. In the first part of this chapter the characteristics of ionizing radiation in general and of X -rays and fission neutrons in particular are described; the second part describes the hemopoietic system.
