An analysis of the role of engineers, architects and city planners in the transformation of Dutch society from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century. The article tries to assess the extent to which decisions about the physical and social arrangement of Dutch society were left to technical experts - hence the title: 'Technology as politics'.
