Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. A variety of serum biomarkers (such as inflammatory cytokines, adipokines and other circulating proteins) have been explored in attempts to identify a reliable predictor in early pregnancy for the subsequent development of GDM, but so far, none has been found.
