Summary: Life and work of Joseph Winkel (1881-1945), attorney in Rotterdam (1906-1942), who was interested in legal history and classical antiquity and perished in Auschwitz in January 1945, followed by some biographical details of his son Hans Winkel, legal scholar, magistrate and author of some 70 publications in the field of law, comparative law, legal history and Jewish genealogy. A fund is created in memory of Joseph Winkel to further the study of legal history by his grandson.
