Traditionally, the process of technology development has been considered an activity belonging to the domain of the natural sciences. Nowadays the process of innovation and diffusion of technological developments cover studies in economic and environmental science, business administration and other disciplines as well. Innovative capacity has even become a major indicator for the economic success of companies and sectors, and also for the sectors of shipping, ports and supply chain management. The meaning and potentials of innovation are central in this chapter.
