Globalisation is a hotly debated topic. There is a plethora of literature on the subject. Much of the debate is oriented around the economic and social dimensions of globalisation, leading to a situation in which, despite massive increases in global capital and foreign direct investment, previously existing inequalities have been exacerbated.1 According to this literature, inequalities at global and national levels have led, correspondingly, to low wages, poverty, pressures to migrate, human insecurity and ultimately global insecurity.
