The amount of cosmetic treatments is growing every year. Herewith, the numbers of complications are growing as well. There are product- and injector related complications. Product related complications are allergic and inflammatory responses. Stricter regulations may lead to not only more attentions of biocompatibility but also to the degradation process of the products over time and a better post marketing surveillance by which adverse events are recognized. Injector related adverse events are overcorrection, dislocation and vascular adverse events.
The use of duplex ultrasound may help in prevention and treatments of these complications. Before treatment the individual variations in anatomy can be mapped and previous filler treatments can be brought in to site. After treatment, the injection technique performed can de judged. Diagnoses and management of possible complications are more precise.
