Part 1 (Chapter 2) of this thesis describes the relationships between the characteristics of atherosclerotic plaques assessed with multidetector computed tomography angiography in the carotid arteries with stroke and transient ischemic attacks. Part 2 (Chapter 3) describes the prevalence, distribution and morphology of intracranial atherosclerotic stenoses (IAS) in stroke patients or TIA patients. In addition, the occurrence of new ischemic stroke in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic IAS during long-term follow-up is described.
