Technology, industrialization, and the contested modernization of the Netherlands

The article discusses the modernization of Dutch agriculture and industry from the perspective of technological choices made. Because these choices involved sociocultural as well as purely economic-rational considerations, a different picture than the one usually presented by economic historians emerges.
