Self-esteem is an important construct that is closely related to psychopathology in children and adolescents. The present article argues that self-esteem interventions are important to prevent the onset of psychopathology in children and adolescents. Recent developments in self-esteem research are described and the effectiveness of previous self-esteem interventions are discussed. Special attention is paid to Dutch self-esteem interventions targeting children and adolescents. Finally, recommendations for future self-esteem interventions are provided.
