We report on the characterization of a gas detector, based on Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs), for use in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). The light emitted during the gas multiplication process in 1 atm Ar-CF 4 (96-4) scintillating gas mixture has been studied as a function of applied voltages and treatment conditions such as beam time and photon energy.
