The solitary waves of excitation were investigated in a two dimensional network of spiking neurons with distance dependent couplings. The stability properties in two dimensions were found to be complex than those of the one dimensional system. The stability properties of solitary waves and wave trains were dominated by form stabilities which demonstrate the two dimensional nature of the system.
