Accidents are the most prevalent cause of bruising in children, especially when they start to become more mobile. Therefore, accidents are the most important differential diagnosis in bruising in children. In evaluating the differential diagnosis between abuse and accident, one should always take into account the history from both parents and child (Sect. 2.8.2), the age and developmental stage of the child, and the shape, size, number, and location of the bruises.
