This chapter gives a brief overview of the legal regulation of physician assistance in dying in the Netherlands and elsewhere. It then presents research data on the frequency of end-of-life decisions and their main characteristics in different countries. Finally, it briefly discusses the possible consequences of legalizing euthanasia for the practice of end-of-life decisionmaking.
