Mechanical ventilation set according to standard protocols or tables is not sufficient for the individual patient. Therefore, we should aim to personalized mechanical ventilation strategies and personalized physiology. The aim of this thesis is to optimize PEEP and the level of ventilatory assist in the individual patient at the bedside, in order to minimize Ventilator Induced Lung Injury (VILI).
