Standards can be defined as technical or quality requirements for products, production processes or services. Even knowing that the standard setting might lead to economic efficiencies, the antitrust literature also shows that markets where standards are excessive, free competition may be harmed as the initiative of several companies happens to be restricted in some form. This paper aims to present which are the antitrust concerns that should be taken into account by the competition authority in their analysis and future investigations. The article also uses as an example and case study the so-called cement cartel, judged by CADE in 2014.
