The statutory purpose of the International Society of Audiology is to facilitate the knowledge, protection, and rehabilitation of human hearing, inclusive of the effects of pharmacologic and surgical measures, but exclusive of matters relating to the techniques of these measures. To this end, it shall coordinate and disseminate information to and from its members and member societies, hold courses and regular international congresses, publish a journal and other written communications in the field of audiology, and serve as an advocate for the professionals in the field and for the hearing impaired throughout the world.
The methods of achieving these goals were up to now the organising of biannual congresses, the publication of the journal Audiology, and the participation in international organisations such as Hearing International, CIOMS. It is felt by many members that these methods are far too limited for the present. A reorganisation of the Society is foreseen for the coming year. The reorganisation will not change the goals of the Society in any way, but the Executive Board and Executive Committee will try to adapt the methods to the present.
