The preponderance of the economic approach to development has been achieved and maintained by this approach being embedded in an economistic lifestyle. The dominance of economics as a discipline of the social sciences. is a direct corrolary to the sway of econornism as the specifically Western philosophic véçue. The discipline of economics and the specifically western perception of public life, or life in general, in terms of economics have become closely interwoven. This has gone to such an extent that many of those concerned have tended to think little of the question whether any and every aspect or sector of life could receive equally adequate attention and equally fair treatment if approached in the manner of economic thinking.
